Sunflower
- Use paper or plastic cups to start your Sunflower seeds (if you don’t have seeding trays). Make sure to make some holes at the base of the cups for drainage.
- Fill ¾ of the cup with the potting mix and moisten the soil with a spray.
- Place one sunflower seed in each cup (2 inch diameter cups) and cover with a sprinkling of soil to completely cover the seed (1/2 inch) and moisten with the watering spray.
- Place the cups in a brightly lit indoor space and keep the soil moist by watering it every day.
- The seeds will germinate in 4-5 days, once the seedlings have a pair of true leaves (5-6 leaves in total), transplant them to the final growing pot.
- Do not plant more than 2 seedlings in a 21 cm pot. Keep the plants out in an area that receives at least 5-6 hours of sun and water them regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy.
- Never water in peak sun. Spray it with neem oil solution once every week after transplanting and feed your plant a good fertiliser that supports blooming (NPK 19:19:19) once every three weeks for bigger blooms.
- Your sunflowers will start flowering in approximately 12 to 14 weeks from sowing, under ideal conditions.
